Starkey

Represented in North & South Americas, Europe & UK

Philadelphia-based artist Starkey is more than just a renowned music producer — he’s
a true innovator in the electronic music scene. As the creator of “Street Bass,” a genre
blending hip-hop, grime, and dubstep, Starkey crafts immersive soundscapes that stand
out for their intricate complexity. A pioneer in introducing grime to the United States, his
distinctive production style, which merges a classical music background with refined
music engineering, has earned him a global fanbase and solidified his place as an in-
demand composer and producer.

Since 2005, Starkey has captivated a passionate, forward-thinking audience with his
bass-heavy, intergalactic arrangements. In 2008, he became the sole American
producer featured on the legendary "Generation Bass" special on Mary Anne Hobbs'
BBC Radio 1 show. His 2012 album Orbits was hailed by Pitchfork as “classic synth
grandeur,” earning an 8/10 rating, and his 2015 release The Transponder
Orchestra was named Bleep’s Album of the Week, with praise for the more expansive
and ambitious direction of his sound.

Starkey’s 2016 releases, Odyssey Five and Charting Stardust (Original Soundtrack),
built upon the acoustic-analogue sound he’s been cultivating with his NOREMIXES
imprint, while still retaining the core elements of his revered heavy bass meets
syncopated synthesized sounds. His 2019 New Theia series, released on Eat the
Bomb, saw him expand his use of modular synthesis in the studio, while collaborating
with international artists like Eligh (Living Legends / US), Miss Eaves (US), Mad Hed
City (Trinidad & Tobago), and UK heavyweights Buggsy, Manchester Hypes, XP &
Redders. In 2020, Starkey dropped Pulsar 2020Hz on the Deadbeats label, further
advancing his electronic production by blending classic hardcore elements into his
unique sound.

In 2023, Starkey released the official Elijah & Jammz ‘Make the Ting (Starkey Remixes),
remixing every track from the pivotal grime release, which landed two tracks on Spotify’s
Grime Shutdown playlist. This was followed by the collaborative Clydebot Ultra EP with
Norwich-based producer CLYDE for Los Angeles’ Dome of Doom: flexing old school
hardcore breaks and rave stabs.

Acclaimed worldwide, Starkey’s body of work is a testament to his originality and
inventive production. His music has been featured in commercials for British Airways,
Adidas, GoPro, and Temple University, and appeared on shows
including Sense8 (Netflix), Football Focus & Waterloo Road (BBC1), Anthony Bourdain:
Parts Unknown (CNN), and 20/20 (ABC). His tracks have also been included in video
games like Pro Evolution Soccer 2012, Dirt 3, and Crackdown 2. From producing and
DJing to running the influential record labels Seclusiasis, Slit Jockey Records, and
NOREMIXES, Starkey remains an unstoppable force in the evolution of music.
